  • EE for Supervisors Round Table

    Are you familiar with the new Extended Essay (EE) Guide for the Class of 2027? The assessment criteria have undergone major changes, and supervisors need to understand the new requirements in order to provide the guidance necessary for students to be successful in one of the most important assessments for the IB diploma. Whether you are new to IB or a seasoned supervisor, it is critical to understand the new EE requirements for your Class of 2027 students.

    During our three-hour roundtable on Zoom, we will discuss:

    What has changed and what remains the same with the EE

    Review of each of the assessment criteria

    How to best guide our students for success with the EE

    Presenter: 

    Doreen Chonko started working with the IBO in 1998 and was trained as a workshop leader in 2006. Her roles within IBEN include Workshop Leader, Online Facilitator, Workshop Developer, Examiner for Extended Essay, and TOK. She is currently a workshop leader for the Extended Essay, TOK, Librarians, What is AI, and other various workshops. For 13 years, Doreen was the teacher librarian at a public school in Florida, and then transitioned from the library into the classroom to teach TOK and coordinate the Extended Essay for another 8 years. Currently, she is a freelance IB consultant working with IB World Schools throughout the Americas, and she recently worked as a part-time Reference Librarian at a public library.

  • TOK Across the Curriculum

    Do you need help incorporating TOK into your subject area? IBO requires all subject teachers to have a working knowledge of TOK and to make explicit connections in their subject lessons. If you would like to become more knowledgeable about TOK and how to best integrate it into your teaching practice, then you don’t want to miss this Ohio Association roundtable.

    During our one-day meeting, we will discuss:

    The core purpose of TOK

    An overview of the TOK curriculum to include connections to subjects

    Enhancing your students’ critical thinking in your subject

    Key TOK assessments 

    Practical integration strategies

    Demystifying knowledge questions for your subject

    Encouraging real-world examples

    Collaborative opportunities within your school

  • IB Recognition Virtual Workshop for Ohio IB DP/CP Counselors and Coordinators

    The Ohio Association of IB World Schools and the IB Global Recognition Team are delighted to invite you to a dedicated workshop designed specifically for colleagues who support IB students in their college application process. This two-part virtual event will provide an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the evolving global landscape of IB recognition and enhance your strategies for supporting IB students in their college application journeys.

    Recognition Update 

    Get the latest insights and trends in IB recognition on a global and local scale. This session will cover updates from the IB Organization, including changes to the curriculum, assessment practices, and international recognition. 

     

    Workshop: Supporting IB Students in Their College Applications 

    Participate in an interactive workshop focused on best practices for guiding IB students through the college application process. The IB team will provide a live demonstration of the IB University Recognition Database to aid your students in their college search. From crafting strong personal statements to understanding the nuances of predicted grades, this session will equip you with practical tools and strategies to help your students succeed. 

     

     Workshop Leader Marie Vivas

    Marie Vivas is the Senior Recognition Manager, US and Canada at the International Baccalaureate Organization. She has extensive knowledge of the international college admissions counseling process from several perspectives. For over fifteen years she was Director of College Counseling at Escuela Campo Alegre in Caracas, Venezuela and, at Colegio Americano de Quito in Ecuador. Prior to joining the IBO, she was Director of Admissions at Jacobs University Bremen.  

     

    Marie works closely with university admissions officers and faculty on IB recognition issues. She was the lead in creating a series of Access Workshops for IB Counselors and Coordinators working with low-income students. 

     

    Marie was the President of International ACAC and is a recipient of the Peter Hauet International ACAC Lifetime Achievement Award. She has served on several NACAC Committees, most recently on the Admissions Practices Committee.
